Norwegian Prima Inaugural Cruise Review
The NCL PRIMA design boasts 18x Suite categories (including the fleet's first 3-bedroom suites) and the NCL's biggest-ever Inside-, Oceanview- and Balcony staterooms. Prima additionally offers a buffet and included pub (with comfort food), as well as a large number of specialty restaurants that run the gamut from sushi to Mediterranean and Italian or hibachi. Norwegian Prima cabins to avoid include any room above or around the ship's theater, which doubles as a night club and can be loud late into the night. Introduced as the first ship in NCL's Prima Class in 2022, Norwegian Prima is purposely designed to feel like a swanky resort instead of a cruise ship.
Food and drinks
There is a Starbucks station inside Indulge on Norwegian Prima. Indulge is an extremely popular and complimentary dining venue, especially at lunch. The extra capacity is a welcome addition and a sign that Indulge is a new passenger favorite. Though you can place your order from a table or booth, we highly recommend that you wander the entire food hall first to get a feel for the various offerings.
Oceanview
A little after 2 PM, our group dispersed, and we made our way over to the new Tee Time golf. This Vegas-styled mini-golf course is supposed to be an interactive experience; however, it wasn’t working during our last sailing. Taking our time to get ready, we made it to the theater right on time for the first activity of the day.
We know that our guests want many of their meals to be complimentary, so we've added a host of additional options that allow you to eat in style while saving up for those special nights. Often, cruisers head directly to the buffet on board — Prima's is at Surfside Café, and we've added an outdoor Surfside Grill for a quick bite like hot dogs, burgers and more. But we actually encourage guests to head straight to Norwegian's first-ever food hall, Indulge Food Hall, where diners can choose from 11 stations around the globe. Indian, Italian, Chinese, BBQ, rotisserie, tapas, desserts and more are all complimentary! Then sit inside, outside, or even grab-and-go for a 'picnic' at one of the many lounging areas around the ship.
I enjoyed too much good food in the free and specialty restaurants and did not spend nearly enough time in the gym or spa. I chose to upgrade my package to NCL’s Free at Sea Plus because I needed unlimited Wi-Fi and wanted to have water and Starbucks drinks included as part of my drink package. Those are part of the upgraded package but not part of the basic one. With the upgrade, I also ended up with two more meals in specialty dining restaurants. Infinity Beach is another new concept debuting on Norwegian Prima. The highlights here are two infinity pools, each on one side of the ship, to bring people closer to the sea.
After 12 nights on the Prima going from London to Barcelona via several stops in France, Portugal and Spain, we discovered there was a lot to like about the ship, but there were also several quirks. I had cruised NCL three times before and was a silver member of the Latitudes rewards program when I booked. We believe everyone should be able to make financial decisions with confidence. Another new-to-NCL concept is an outdoor sculpture garden with installations designed by Alexander Krivosheiw, The Concourse. Norwegian Cruise Line's first new ship class in nearly 10 years, Norwegian Prima, launches in August 2022 and we are already getting very excited.

Becoming rather routine for us on this Norwegian Prima Inaugural cruise review, we made our way to the Metropolitan Bar after dinner. Debuting on Norwegian Prima is the new Mediterranean restaurant, Palomar. Featuring selections like grilled octopus, pickled oysters, and Dover sole, the menu is heavy on seafood. Norwegian Prima launched its inaugural cruising season with a series of eight-day cruises in northern Europe, followed by Fall 2022 cruises around the Caribbean, before returning to Europe in Summer 2023. This spa will feature the first charcoal sauna at sea, as well as an ice room, experiential showers, a floatation salt pool and an infrared sauna. The production features a range of songs from the career of Donna Summer and shows will take place in a new, three-story theater with lots of special tech features that make for an immersive experience.
INSIDER TIP – Make your reservations for the shows, especially the comedy club and game shows as soon as possible. Improv at Sea, the comedy club, seats about 70 people so early reservations are necessary. Indulge is a collection of 11 different types of restaurants all under one “roof”. I noticed some strong resemblances to restaurants on other ships.
However, the cruise line has made some big changes to its main dining room experience on Norwegian Prima. Norwegian Prima can hold up to 3,100 guests at double capacity and offers the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any contemporary or premium cruise ship. In the evenings, Sensoria transforms into a Vegas-style disco nightclub with live DJ programming and high-energy music.
The two or three games parents allowed grew astronomically along with the bill. Prima will have two escape rooms ($15 per person) on board. Due to supply issues, that option was not available on my sailing, but is coming soon.
With any new cruise ship, there are usually some kinks with staffing and service that need to be ironed out. The increased crew to passenger ratio on the ship meant our inaugural cruise was smooth sailing. The ship now has two main dining rooms, Hudson’s and The Commodore Room, which serve the same fixed menu each night of the cruise. This elevated dining menu is expansive, with several premium options for starters, entrees, and dessert. Of course, you can order as much as you want with no additional costs.
Unfortunately, we only made it through one hole before it malfunctioned on us. While we still think this close to 90 minute show is a bit long, we did enjoy it a little more this time around. Nevertheless, the three singers who play Donna Summer at various stages of her life are phenomenal. During lunch, we also found out from our media host that we could make dining reservations in Hasuki until 4 PM today. Still not seeing any dining reservation in our app, off we went to Hasuki.
